Thank God for a GPS!

How is your geography? I thought mine was pretty good, but now, I think I should never go anywhere without a map! And if I ever go to Europe, I should be careful I don't end up in Mexico!!

Spaghetti Cupcakes

I volunteered to take dessert for a party last weekend. The food was catered from Olive Garden, so I thought these cupcakes would go nicely with the theme. They were so easy to make and looked so real, the kids almost didn't want to eat them!

This is the most awesome cookbook for terrific cupcake ideas! I used this cookbook for the cupcakes I made last October for Olivia's birthday party. You can see them here. Liz had made these for her family Christmas gathering last December and told me how easy they were, so I gave them a try.

Start off by baking cupcakes. The cookbook has a recipe for cupcakes, but I cheated and used a box mix. I did a double batch, so I used 2 cans of vanilla icing. To get the right spaghetti color, you tint it with yellow food coloring and a little bit of cocoa. Ice the cupcakes with a really thin coating of icing before you make your spaghetti noodles.
Scoop the icing into a ziploc bag and clip a tiny corner off so you can squeeze out your spaghetti. That was totally fun to do.

The sauce and meatballs were made of low sugar strawberry preserves and Ferrero Roche candies.

They looked so cool! And tasted even better!

Sophia Turns 2!

We held Sophia's birthday party on a Sunday afternoon. We weren't going to really do a big to-do because she is turning 2 and at that age, cake and singing by just the family is a big to-do, you know?

So, we got a cake from a local bakery and invited over our fabulous neighbors and had a little party.

Sophia thought the candles were pretty exciting!

But the cake and ice cream was an even bigger hit!

She is a pretty messy eater!

With three girls in the house, and so soon after Christmas, the girls really need nothing. So, I requested that our friends come, but not bring gifts. They all completely ignored me. And, as soon as I invited them, they told me that they were going to ignore me! They crack me up! And, they threatened me that if I protested, they would bring drum sets and moon sand!

We all had a really great time. We had so much fun, the afternoon party turned into dinner. We all ordered pizza and hung out all evening!

Family Picture

Several people have asked if there are any pictures of our entire family together when Daddy came home. Of course, all of the pictures on my camera were taken by me, so I had to ask around.
Here is the happy family!

Snow in California!

A few weeks ago, we took a Sunday drive (actually it was Saturday, but you know what I mean!!) up to a little town, called Julian, in the mountains nearby. We discovered a little bit of snow on the ground from the day before that kids enjoyed playing with, and then it started to snow as we were getting ready to leave. The kids really loved it!

And, Julian is famous for their apple pie - totally worth the trip for that alone!!
yum!
I found a recipe in a Southern Living from last fall, I think I might give it a try!
Here is a link to the recipe from a blogger who cooked it and added her notes!
