Success... a Reminder...

What is Success?

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by
a healthy child, a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived;

This is to have succeeded.

Even More Spring Sweet Funky Vintage!

We have had a fun spring season and have really been enjoying all of the creations that our customers have been desiging at our Sweet Funky Vintage trunk shows! We will share some of those with you soon.
The biggest advantage of attending one of our Sweet Funky Vintage trunk shows is that you get to see all of our samples in person, see and feel all of our fabrics, and design your own garments. You can choose from among our 40 styles and 40 fabrics so the combinations are endless (okay, probably not endless, but Math is not my strong point, so let's just say there are gazillions of options)!
I thought I would show you some of our boy selections:

I thought I would show a few girl things too...

Potato Leek Soup

Another cooking post already, can you believe it??
I have been trying to cook easy, healthy meals for my family, and utilize the organic vegetables that I get every Thursday.

This week, I made Potato Leek Soup and it was really good!

3 Tablespoons Butter
3 leeks, thinly sliced. (clean really well an only use the white and light green part)
1 medium or large onion, chopped
6-8 russet potatoes (I only had irish potatoes, so I used about 12. You don't need to peel the potatoes because the peels add to the texture of the soup)
3 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
salt to taste
fresh ground black pepper to taste

1. melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat and then add onions and leeks. Cook, stirring, until onions are limp and just slightly brown.

2. Add sliced potatoes to saucepan and pour in enough chicken broth to just barely cover the potatoes. Continue cooking over medium heat until potatoes are tender. Using a potato masher, mash and stir potatoes until desired consistency. As you mash the potatoes and the soup thickens, turn down heat and stir frequently with a large spoon to prevent scorching.

3. add one cup of heavy cream and salt and pepper to taste. Cook 15 minutes more over low heat, stirring frequently, then remove from heat and serve.

Yum! Easy Crock Pot Pork Chop Recipe!

These days, my life seems to get busier and busier. I love finding a recipe that is quick and easy to prepare and also really yummy!

Crock Pot Beer Chops

1 sliced onion
3 Pork Chops
2 Beers
2 Cubes Chicken Bouillon

Arrange onion slices in bottom of slow cooker. Place pork chops on top of onions. Pour in beer and add chicken bouillon cubes. Cover and cook on low 6 to 8 hours.

The original recipe that I found allowed for 2 pork chops and 1 beer, but I had 3 pork chops and 1 beer just didn't seem like enough liquid, so I added more. Naturally, I meant to start it cooking earlier, and was running late, so I cooked it on high for 4 hours. The pork was cooked and it was good, but the pork would have been more tender if I had cooked it longer. It was very moist, though. As far as the type of onion, I used a white onion, but next time I will probably use a Vidalia onion. I used one dark beer (porter) and one light (Coors Light), because they were handy. I would like to try using a Cider Ale next time, I think it would give an interesting flavor!
